Nung Sirisot, 19 year old Scout made her way to Westminster Abbey to support the Coronation, where HRH King Charles III was officially crowned on May 6th.

Nung, who is part of Heslington Scout Group, and 400 other Scouts headed to London to do their duty to the King and take part in this momentous occasion.

Nung and her fellow Scouts were responsible for supporting the Coronation around Westminster Abbey, crowd stewarding and supporting the public who were there to celebrate with the King. The Scouts managed huge crowds at locations such as the big screen in St James Park, Hyde Park, Green Park, and the Admiralty Arch.

50 Scouts attended the Coronation event at St Margaret’s church. These young people witnessed the historic moment take place and experience the once-in-a-lifetime event due to their service and willingness to support the nation. The Scouts were some of the first people to see the newly appointed King leave Westminster Abbey.

Last year, Scout Volunteers supported the thousands of people paying their respects at Her Majesty The Queen’s Lying in State. Scouts helped those with accessibility needs and supported the 250,000 people who queued for as long as 24 hours to pay their respects to HM Queen.

Taking part in these events is a huge responsibility but Scouts doing their duty to the nation will always be a priority, no matter the scale.

Volunteering is at the core of Scouts and to commemorate these values, Scouts across the UK took part in The Big Help on Monday, 8th May 2023. This was organised by The Together Coalition and a wide range of partners including The Scouts.

In tribute to His Majesty The King’s public service, The Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.

Nung, Scout from Heslington Scout Group said: “Being a part of the coronation was a true
privilege and an unforgettable experience. Witnessing the overwhelming support from our
nation and the Commonwealth was genuinely inspiring. As a representative for The Scouts,
I felt immense pride to serve the King and contribute in my small way at Victoria Tower
Gardens and Lambeth Bridge during his majesty’s coronation. Meeting exceptional guests,
including community champions, celebrities, armed forces, and individuals on the special
list for Westminster Abbey, was an honour. Everyone had a unique story, and I had the
pleasure of meeting notable celebrities such as Dame Emma Thompson, Dame Judi Dench,
Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Ant and Dec.

“My involvement in this historic event was an incredible experience that had a profound
positive impact on me. Working with an exceptional group of people on the front line to
ensure everything ran smoothly was an honour. I am grateful to have been a part of such a
momentous occasion and look forward to sharing this unforgettable story with my future grandchildren. Volunteering is an essential part of Scouts, and I am proud to participate in
such an initiative.”
